Thoughts
In working with small businesses, I have served a comprehensive role as a web presence manager, handling not only the design of a website but the content and promotion. For one client, my work has included both media and fan relations, email marketing, video editing, print signage and CD cover art.
I have worked with companies who have vision when it comes to their web presence and those who need a great deal of guidance. I have also dealt with stalled projects and prospects who have taken a great deal of my time to further their own discovery process. I value this experience as I have had to learn, not only the technical skills required to create a website but employ business skills developed in my previous career to make a website work and to know when to walk away from a project because it does not make good business sense for the site owner or for me.
I have a good deal more to learn in this industry and as I start to work on larger projects, I spend my time studying Information Architecture, Web Usability, Accessibility and Content Management with the objective of leading large scale standards compliant design initiatives.
